FAQs
Q1: Under what circumstances do I need a survey?
The most common reason for requesting a survey is for the acquisition of real estate or the purchase of a home. Surveying services may be requested for a variety of needs, including land development requiring engineering / architectural design, permitting for construction of residential or commercial improvements and other reasons. Contact us if you have questions and to discuss your needs.
Q2: How do I locate a prior or existing survey of my home? I was cited by code enforcement for a fence constructed on my property without a permit. The fence was already there when I purchased my home. The inspector said that I would need to provide a survey with my application to resolve the situation. What should I do?
If you did not receive a copy of a survey at closing, give us a call and we will check our archives first to see if we have records for your property in our files. If not we will discuss other options available to locate prior records and/or solve the survey requirement.
Q3: I received a copy of my survey when I purchased my home. Now I am ready to construct an addition to my house. I called the surveyor to update the survey for permitting and he does not provide the necessary construction services. What should I do?
Unfortunately, this is not uncommon. Some surveying firms only provide surveys for real estate closings and not for permitting.
In this case, a current survey meeting your needs may be necessary. We may be able to find other survey records prior to your closing survey. Contact us and we will review your circumstances.
Q4: I have two older surveys of my property. I tried to contact both surveyors but could not find them. How can I locate their records ?
Contact us for possible updated information. The surveying business in question may have been acquired by another company or the surveyor may have relocated, retired or be deceased. We have multiple survey data archives that may connect you to the previous survey information.
Q5: I called the phone number on the bottom of my prior survey and Jeffers and Associates, Inc. answered the call. Are you a different business?
Yes, in several cases area surveyors have retired and closed without selling their business. In the interest of retaining old records for informational purposes and to have a connection to the previous clients, Jeffers and Associates, Inc. purchased several phone numbers that are now remote call forwarded. We have access to many survey records from multiple businesses. Some records are more complete than others. Contact us to see if we have your property in our available archives.
